GENERAL FAQS
Below are some frequently asked questions we receive about Sprouts and full day kindergarten. If you have a question that is not listed below, please contact us at 905-889-8898.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS OF OPERATION?
We are open Monday through Friday for the timings listed below. We operate all year round and are closed only on all statutory and civic holidays.
Thornhill Campus: 7 am to 6 pm
Alliston Campus: 6 am to 6 pm
DO YOU OFFER MEALS AND SNACKS?
The centre offers a morning and afternoon snack, along with a hot, nutritious lunch daily. All meals and snacks are prepared on the premises by our cook who has been with us for over 25 years. All meals served at Sprouts are made fresh daily. All menus and snacks are prepared in accordance with the Day Nurseries Act (DNA) and support the Municipal and Regional Criteria including the City of Toronto Operating Criteria. Parents provide formula, milk in bottles and food for infants who do not yet eat regularly prepared meals and snacks.
MY CHILD HAS SEVERAL FOOD ALLERGIES, IS THE CENTRE EQUIPPED TO MANAGE HIS/HER NEEDS?
We will do our best to provide alternate foods for children who cannot eat offerings from our main menu whether due to allergy or food restriction. Please talk to the Director about any requirements in this area. The centre endeavours to be nut free as an allergy to nuts can be very serious and many children are allergic. We therefore require that any food brought into the centre be purchased/prepared in a nut free environment and labeled as such
DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO BE POTTY TRAINED TO ATTEND DAY CARE?
At Sprouts we partner with parents in supporting children through this transition. A team effort will most likely result in a positive growth experience for the child. Each child is different and at different stages so the potty training process should be discussed and agreed upon by both the parents and educators. A consistent approach avoids confusion for the child and sets them up for success. Strategies will be shared by our staff and a plan of action will be developed and implemented with you.
WHO PROVIDES DIAPERS, WIPES AND CREAMS?
These items are all provided by the parent. Everyone has their preferences as to what they like to use for their children. You can leave these at the centre in your child’s basket/space provided. Should you require any topical ointments/creams etc. to be applied a permission form will need to be signed.
WILL YOU ADMINISTER MEDICATION IF NEEDED?
Children should be at home if they’re sick, however sometimes medication continues when they’re feeling well enough to return to child care. We follow the regulations of the Day Nurseries Act to ensure the safety and health of all children. Medication will be administered if the child is able to participate in all areas of the program offered, including outdoor play. All medication must be in its original container and you will need to complete the dispensing log giving your permission to administer.
If a child becomes ill during the day, we’ll give you a call to let you know. You may be asked to arrange to have your child picked up. Your child’s needs will be looked after as best as we can until you’re able to pick up.
The teachers are trained in First Aid.
DO YOU OFFER SUBSIDIZED CHILD CARE?
Sprouts Child Care Centre serves both full fee and subsidized clients. For more information on obtaining subsidy through respective Region’s please contact the region’s representative or book a meeting with the Centre Supervisor to assist you further.
